Sarah Gregson, was the daughter of Thomas Gregory and Jane _____. Her mother's will (Jane, widow of Mr. Gregson) listed "the four children of my daughter Whitehead, 6 acres of third division each." The will was dated 5 Feb 1691/2 and she died 4 June 1702. It is estimated that Sarah was born about 1646, based on her age at her first marriage. Her father Thomas was lost at sea 1646/7, in the ill-fated "Phantom Ship" owned by Mr. Lamberton.
As speculation: Birth in 1646 makes this the last child of Thomas Gregory. Three other daughters were baptized at New Haven 1639, 1643 and 1644. Why was Sarah not baptized? Was the record lost? Not recorded? Or perhaps she was an earlier daughter born before the family arrival in New Haven, 1638. The birth of Stephen in 1680, leans towards the later date, but would not be impossible for a woman of 42 or 43.
An undated inventory of her estate was valued at £108 17s (with debts of £6 2s 6d). Her surviving children were listed on the inventory John Gilbert aged 28, Thomas Gilbert about 24, Samll Whitehead 19, Steeven Whitehead about 17. The ages of the children and the adjutant records in the probate register indicate it was taken in 1697.
