Biography

Genealogically Defined

William Greig was born in the Colony of South Australia (1836-1900)

William was the eighth child of William Greig and Julia Grace, born on 29th November 1872 in Nuriootpa, South Australia.^[1]

At 28 years of age William married Florence Haytread, in her family home at Queenstown.^[2] They had three children, all born at Jamestown:

• Maud Elma (born 1901)
• William John (born 1903)
• Irene Kathleen (born 1905)

In later years the family moved to Glenelg, where William kept a store.^[3][4][5] In 1936 William was fined 5 shillings for having cigarettes and tobacco available for sale during prohibited hours.^[6]

William died at 80 years of age at St Leonards, now Glenelg, and was interred in the Cheltenham Cemetery, Cheltenham.^[7][8][9]
