Helen M. Carson, age 97, of Washington, Iowa died Friday, November 2, 2012 at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington following a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be held 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa with Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. Memorials have been established for the M.L. McCreedy Home, the United Methodist Church or Iowa City Hospice. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Helen was born October 24, 1915 in Harper, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Lillian (Herr) Greiner. She attended Centennial School and graduated from Washington High School in 1934. On August 6, 1936, Helen was united in marriage to Robert H. Carson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
She lived most of her life in Washington County. Helen was a homemaker and worked at the State Theater prior to her marriage. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington and enjoyed yardwork and gardening.
Helen is survived by two daughters; Julia A. "Rooney" Wilson and husband Don of Columbus Junction, Iowa; Carol D. Carson and Toby Langner of Chicago, Illinois; three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Gallagher of Washington, Iowa; brother Bob Gallagher and wife Gertrude of Muscatine, Iowa; sister, Betty Gallagher Wells of Anderson, Indiana; and sister-in-law, Eva Gallagher of Washington, Iowa as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Carson, three sisters: Dorothy Notier, Gerry Jewell, Barbara Gallagher; and one brother, Bill Gallagher.
