Biography
Sora (see Research Notes) was born about 1851[1] in Šeduva, Panevėžys, Lithuania,[2] then part of the Russian Empire. Her father was Girsh[3] or Leizer Grek and her mother was Rivka (Unknown) Grek.[4]
Sora married Schmuel Brezniker, probably before 1867 (based on the birth date of their first child) and they had at least seven children (see Research Notes).
After Schmuel's death, Sora married Mortkhel Sokhen a widower with ten children, June 19, 1897 in Pasvalys, Panevezys, Lithuania.[1] Sora's son, Benel, and Mortkhel's daughter, Dina Eta, had been married two years and one day earlier.
In 1908, a Lithuanian family list shows Sora and Mortkhel with a very large extended family that included seven of Mortkhel's children, two of his daughters-in-law, and five of his grandchildren.[5]
Sora may have been issued a passport in 1914 and she may have applied twice for passports in 1922 (see Research Notes).
Sora may have died of "carcinoma into No. 18" June 23, 1938 in the Jewish hospital in Panevėžys, after which she was buried in the Panevėžys Jew cemetery. The death recorded in Panevėžys shows her name as Malka Sora Brezniker and shows her parents as Leizer and Rivka.[4]
Research Notes
First Name
Sora's first name is not always the same on all records. It has been spelled Sara and has sometimes been shown as Sora Gita or Sora Malka.

Sore's known children, all with her first husband, Schmuel Brezniker, were:

- Gavriel Brezniker, born August 4, 1868
- Benel Naftel Brezniker, born about 1874
- Feyga Brezniker, born May 16, 1875
- Meyer Brezniker, born about 1876
- Itsek Brezniker, born November 18, 1876
- Daniel Brezniker, born June 14, 1877
It is likely that Meyer and Itsvek were twins.
Passports
It is possible that Sora was issued a Russian passport in 1914 and applied for internal passports twice in 1922, using her previous married name of Brezniker, although her middle name on these records is not correct.
- Sara Malka Brezniker, born in Panevezys about 1851, applied for an internal passport in Panevezys June 1, 1922. A notation in the record indicates that she had been issued a Russian passport in Pakruojis March 17, 1914.[6]
- Sara Malka Brezniker, born in Sheduva, Panevezys about 1851, applied for an internal passport in Rozalimas, Panevezys August 2, 1922. A notation in the record indicates that she was a widow.[2]
