Biography

MARRIAGE November 20th, at St. Luke's Church, Cheltenham, by the Rev. Sir Henry Thompson, Bart., Rector of Frant, Capt. George Henry Grey, Grenadier Guards, only son of the Right Hon. Sir George Grey, Bart., to Harriet Jane, youngest daughter of Lieut.-Col. Charles Pearson.[1]

OBITUARY COLONEL G. H. GREY. Colonel George Henry Grey, Equerry to his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, died at Sandringham on the 11th inst. He was born March 21, 1835, the only son of the Right Hon. Sir George Grey, Bart., G.C.B., formerly Secretary of State for the Home Department, by Anna Sophia, his wite, daughter of the Hon. and Right Rev. Henry Ryder, Bishop of Lichtield and Coventry. He married, Nov. 20, 1860, Harriet Jane, daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Pearson, and leaves a son, Edward, born in 1862, and a daughter. Colonel Grey joined the Rifle Brigade, as Second Lieutenant, Dec. 7, 1854, and served in the Crimea from June 10. 1855, to the end of the war, including the fall of Sebastopol and the attacks on the Redan. Subsequently he was actively engaged during the Indian Mutiny, and was present at the actions at Cawnpore and the capture of Lucknow. He had medals and clasps for both campaigns. He retired from the Army in 1864, being then Lieutenant and Captain Grenadier Guards, and was promoted to the command of the Northumberland Militia on the retirement of the Duke of Northumberland.
