Mary Ann Grey (or Gray) was born about 1817 at Durham, England.
She was the daughter of Matthew Grey and Unknown and sister of Henry.
Mary had a number of children before she was married. Although it isn't possible to be certain of their father, their names suggest that they were the children of the John Smith whom she later married.
In 1846 Mary married John McDonald Smith.
They went on to have 2 more daughters, Esther and Louisa after they were married.
Sadly, Louisa died in 1851.
