Emily Grice is a part of US Black heritage.

Emily was born in 1857 at The Pinewoods plantation in Wakulla County, Florida. Her mother, Matilda, was enslaved by Elizabeth Grice Taylor and William Newton Taylor I. Taylor's wife kept a detailed journal of their moves from one plantation to another, including births and deaths of some slaves. Matilda and her children were living at The Pinewoods in 1855-1861.

Emily passed away Sep 1859, according to Elizabeth Taylor's journal.
