John was born in 1735.[citation needed]
"Mr. Griffin" was in a family history or pedigree in Nash co., NC. The record states that he married Martha Jones (daughter of Francis A. and Julianne Jones), and they had children including Thomas.[1]
John married Martha Jones on 27 April 1761 in Edgecombe, North Carolina.[2]
In the 1790 census John was in Edgecombe, North Carolina.[3] Free White Persons - Males - 16 and over: 2. Free White Persons - Females: 2
He passed away in 1796.[citation needed]
John has been attached as the father of Dempsey Griffin (abt.1762-abt.1823). There is currently no source for this relationship. The first name of Dempsey would suggest that he was a nephew or son of Dempsey Griffin (1714-1785), but Dempsey 1762's parents are simply not known yet. Therefore, John's proposed parents, John J. Griffin II (abt.1680-abt.1761) and Mary (Hardy) Griffin (abt.1680-abt.1761) have been marked as Uncertain, as, again, there is no source for this assertion.
