Biography

When William 'Willie' 'Bill' Thomas Griffin was born on July 23, 1919, in Holly Springs, Georgia, his father, Henry, was 29 and his mother, Minnie, was 23. He married Veronica Agnes Anderson on August 4, 1943 in California.^[1] He died on April 20, 2008,^[2] in Panama City, Florida, at the age of 88, and was buried there.^[3]

William Thomas Griffin, Sr. age 88 of Sims Veteran Nursing home passed away April 20, 2008. Bill was born July 23, 1919 in Cherokee County, Georgia, a son of the late Henry and Minnie Collett Griffin.

Bill served in the United States Army during WWII. He was an assistant service manager at a car dealership in Iowa. After retirement, he made his home in Panama City. Bill was an avid gardener, fisherman, and long time member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church. He was a man of faith and deeply devoted to his family.

He is survived by one son: William T. Griffin, Jr. and his wife Patricia of El Cajon, CA; 2 daughters: Julieanne Cavanaugh of West Des Moines, Iowa, Mary J. Stone and her husband Robert of Panama City, FL; 7 grandchildren: Lisa Corwin and her husband William of West Des Moines, Iowa, Alyson Parker of West Des Moines, Iowa, Joseph Griffin of El Cajon, CA, Erin J. Pigneri and his wife Shannon of Panama City, FL, Jessica A. Nelson of Panama City, FL, James J. Pigneri of Panama City, FL, Sarah Howard and her husband Ryan of El Cajon, CA; 5 great-grandchildren, Christina Pigneri, Parker Corwin, Zachary Corwin, Erin Pigneri and Lyric Howard. He is preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years, Veronica Agnes Griffin, 2 sisters: Janette Griffin and Lucy Cash.

A funeral mass will be held Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic's Catholic Church with Father Ben Klucinec officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 23, 2008 from 6-8 pm at Kent Forest Lawn Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his daughter. Mary Stone, 3416 West 15th Street, Panama City, Florida. Asked to serve as active pallbearers will be Jim Pigneri, Erin Pigneri, James Pigneri, Sean Lyon, Jerry Christy, and Michael Nelson. The family wishes to express thanks to Sims Nursing Home and their staff with special thanks to nurses: Vicki, Yvonne, Melissa, Suzanne, Jessica and Covenant Hospice: Janel, Laura, and Dr. Floyd Wright.
