Research Notes

Note that a death index record shows a birth date in 1865 versus 1875. Most of the attached census records indicate a birth year in the 1870s. Note that he does not show up in the 1870 census for his father. At this time the birth date is listed as approximate and the 1875 date is used.

There are two FindAGrave records for two Ed Griffins. One is Ed and the other is Edgar. It is believed that these two records represent the same person with disagreements on the first name possibly arising from census records. The death index record that gives the parent's names and the name Ed has the same date of death for both FindAGrave records.

Additionally, census records seem to align for the same Ed Griffin in Wilkes county. The 1930 census does give the name Edgar instead of Ed. It has been confirmed this census record reflects the same family. At this time, Edgar is assumed to be the proper first name (transcription error for Edward?) and Ed is the nickname or shortened name.
