Marjory Griffin Leake passed away October 23, 1997. Marjory Griffin Leake, a Choctaw Indian, the daughter of John T. Griffin and Mary Ada Toole Griffin was born August 15, 1918 in McAlester, Oklahoma. Her family moved to Muskogee in 1925 when her father made Muskogee headquarters for Griffin Grocery Company. She was educated in Muskogee and attended Christian Collegeat Columbia, Missouri and the University of Oklahoma where she graduated in 1940. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She met James C. Leake, the love of her life, at OU where both were students. They were married on September 10, 1940. Mr. and Mrs. Leake began their family in Dallas, Texas. They returned to Muskogee in 1945 where she resided until her death. She had four children, James C. Leake, Jr., John Griffin Leake, Jean Leake and Nancy Leake Sevenoaks. The Griffin /Leake families were pioneers in the wholesale grocery business, as well as radio and television broadcasting. They founded Channel 9 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Channel 8 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Channel 7 in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1953 and 1954. Mrs. Leake was an active business- woman, as well. She owned a world respected antique furniture gallery. Mrs. Leake was a long time member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Methodist charities, especially the Methodist Children's Home in Tahlequah where the family donated Griffin Hall. Her joy for life led her to become an active member of many clubs and charitable organizations with a lifelong love of gardening. As a master gardener, her home and grounds were some of the most beautiful in the state. She and her husband enjoyed entertaining and her ability as a hostess and chef have been renowned through the years. Marjory was proud of her Choctaw Indian heritage as a direct descendant of an original enrollee. She donated countless hours to many organizations. Some of ber many interests included: The Garden Study Club of Muskogee, Tulsa Garden Club, Five. Civilized Tribes Museum, Preservation of Honor Heights Park, Method-ist Children's Home in Tahlequah, Stahlin Cancer Foundation of Houston, Texas and the Jewish Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Mrs. Leake was preceded in death by her parents, brother, John T. Griffin, and two of her children, John Griffin Leak and Jean Leake. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James C. Leake, of Muskogee; two children, James C. Leake, Jr. and Nancy Leake Sevenoaks both of Tulsa; and eight grandchildren.

LEAKE Funeral services for Marjory Griffin Leake, who died October 23, 1997, will be held Monday, October 27 at 2:00 pm in the Sanctuary of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Muskogee.
