Emily (Griffith) Young migrated from Ireland to Canada.
Emily came to Canada around 1852 with her family. She grew up in Oneida, Haldimand, Canada West. In the 1851 census, Emma Griffith (age 2), was living with her father Benjamin (age 30, laborer), mother Phoebe (age 34), siblings John (6), and Rebecca (3) in Oneida township, Haldimand, Canada West.[1]
In the 1861 census, Emily Griffith (age 11), was living with her father Benjm (age 41, farmer), mother Phoebe (age 44), and siblings John C (16), Rebacca (12), Jane (8), Benj. A (6), and Ellen (age 4) in Oneida township. Their faith was Church of England.[2]
In 1867 Emily (age 18) married Stephen Young (age 21), in Haldimand, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of David Young and Barbara J Young.[3] They had six children:
In 1871 they had 2 children and were living in Caledonia, Haldimand, Haldimand-Norfolk, Ontario.[4]
Before 1881 they had had all 6 children and were living in Oneida, Haldimand, Ontario.[5] They had a farm, on which the older boys worked. They were of Methodist faith.[6]
In 1901 Stephen and Emily were in their fifties and their daughter Alberta, her husband Robert Symonds and their son Stephen were living with them. They were of Methodist faith.[7]
Emily and Stephen were living by themselves in 1911 in Brant in their sixties. [8] In 1917 they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a large celebration with family and friends. While in Brantford they lived on Grand St. about 1.5 miles from the RR Depot.
In 1921 they were in their seventies and lived next to their daughter Barbara Ann Hotson and family in Brantford, Brant, Ontario.[9]
Emily Young (age 72, housewife, married), passed away February 13, 1923 in Brantford, Brant, Ontario, Canada. She resided at 19 Fleet St., and birthdate was recorded as March 30th, in Ireland. Her parents were recorded as Benjamin Griffith and Emily Miller; both of Ireland. The informant on the death record was her her daughter Mrs. Hotson of 17 Fleet St.[10] Ida was mentioned on a memorial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Brantford, Brant County Municipality, Ontario, Canada with a death date of 13 February 1923.[11]
