Adams County borders Brown County Ohio and is across the river from Maysville, Mason County, Kentucky

James Griffith married Ary Stevenson, daughter of Thomas Stevenson who "removed to Kentucky in 1790. They were conveyed down the Ohio River on flat-boats, to Limestone (now Maysville), thence on their pack-horses to Washington, which was then a fort, defended by Simon Kenton and others."
