Joseph was born about 1838 in Brimstone area of Morgan County, Tennessee, on December 17, 1849 Brimstone became part of Scott County, Tennessee. He was the son of Andrew Griffith and Lucy Sexton. He married Sarah Newport on November 23, 1860 in Scott County. He passed away about 1911 at Brimstone in Scott County.
