Biography

William Grigg was born in England.

William was born in 1827. He was the son of Richard Grigg. His mother was Honor Jenkin (or Jenkins).

William inherited the farm that his father and mother had owned: "Nankarvis" in one record and "Nancurbis" in another - with other variations in between (the only thing consistent it the "Nan" at the beginning and the "is" at the end). His father died in 1864, and his mother died in 1876.

In 1874, about 2 years before his mother passed away, William married Jane Jenkins at St Columb. William was 47 years old and his bride was much younger, aged 30. Jane had been in domestic service as a Cook. William may have, with his parents' demise, have considered the need to have children to inherit the land after him.

In 1887 his wife Jane died, aged about 42. By this time they had two sons: William and Richard. Richard would have been about 7 years old, and William, the eldest boy would have been about 12. It would be about a year later that William remarried, this time to widow Elizabeth Ellen Lobb, who had a child of her own from her previous marriage. The next two Census records show Elizabeth integrated into the Grigg household, but Elizabeth's daughter does not feature as a family member - she was already an adult and married in 1891.

He passed away in the summer of 1903, aged 76. William was survived by his wife and two sons. His sons were named as the administrators of his estate.
