Biography

Sarah (Griggs) Hamilton was born in Bermondsey, Surrey, England.

Sarah Jane was born in Bermondsey in 1866.^[1]

In 1885 she had a child out of wedlock, the father not being named on her child’s birth certificate. In 1887 two of her older sisters migrated out to Australia, her elder brother some months later, with the rest of the family following in 1889.

Through DNA testing of 2 of her great grandchildren, Dennis Steley and his sister Gaynor, it has been determined that the father of her first child was one of the 4 eldest sons of John and Eliza Fisher from Kent. See daughter Clara Ann Frances for more information on this. ds
