  • "Louis Menaige, a Canadian, served in the War of 1812. He was a resident of Portage and was living there in 1832. He married Margaret, daughter of Perrish Grignon and his wife, Es-chah-wan-kah, a sister of the Old Decorah. Their children were Peter, Josette, and two others. Grignon-26 and Grignon-28 appear to represent the same person because: They have the same life dates, residences, etc. Marguerite is just the French version of Margaret. The "Chau Wun" is just a confusion with her mother's name, occurring without supporting evidence in a couple of trees. I will be adding primary sources and additional information, but I don't want to do this until this merger is completed. - Richard Dieterle
