James Grigson was born in Staffordshire, England.

James Grigson was born in 1873. He was the son of Rev. Edward Grigson and Eleanor Edith Sunly. His mother's maiden surname was Sunly but noted as Simby on GRO^[1] James was baptised on 29th July 1873 at St James in Wednesbury, Staffordshire. ^[2]

In 1881, James was living with his parents, two younger siblings and two servants in Rosliston, Staffordshire / Derbyshire. ^[3]

In 1891, James was living with his parents and brother in Whinburgh, Norfolk. He was a 17-year-old scholar. ^[4]

In 1901, James was a 28-year-old school master and organist residing in Monkton Combe, Somerset. He was single. ^[5]

James was a professional musician.

James married Kathleen Teasdel in 1920 in Hammersmith, London, England. ^[6]

James passed away in 1940 at the age of 67. His death was registered in Hendon, Middlesex. ^[7]
