Emanuel was born in 1828. He was the son of Michael Grim and Sarah Flinchbaugh.

Emanuel and and Catherine were married around 1857. They had seven children; three daughters and four sons. 1) Sivilla Ellen (Grim) Stabley (1860 - 1940) 2) Elizabeth Ellen (Grim) Grove (1861 - 1961) 3) Abraham L Grim (1863 - 1958) 4) Emanuel Grim (1866 - 1942) 5) Jacob Albert Grim (1868 - 1935) 6) Emma Jane Grim (1871 - 1940) and 7) William Henry Grim (1874 - 1957). Emanuel spent most of his life as a farmer.

In 1900 Emanuel 71 years old and Catherine 61 years old, had one daughter Emma Jane living with them and their youngest son William and his wife Dora and their two children Katie and Charles.
