Biography

Elsje was baptized in New Amsterdam, New Netherland, on 8 July 1654, recorded as the child of Albert Janszen. Witnesses were Jochem Calder, Magdaleen Wale, and Annetie Jans.^[1]

Elsje Alberts and Benjamin Provoost registered banns of marriage in the Reformed Dutch Church of New York on 5 November 1671. She was recorded as a single woman "van N. Jorck" (meaning that she was born in the city of New York, formerly New Amsterdam) and he was the widower of Sara Barents.^[2]
