Biography

Frederick was born in Sumner County, Tennessee to George W Grimes Sr and Eurydice 'Dicey' Gardner. [1] The family lived in Tennessee until immigrating in 1827 to Stephen F. Austin's Colony in the Mexican State of Coahuila and Texas. [2]

Frederick was part of the Republic of Texas Army from around 1832 until he was a "member of Captain Gibson Kuykendall’s company that was detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836." [1]

In 1838 he married Elmira Susan Farley [1] and in 1850 they were living with six of their children in Austin County, Texas: Mary Grimes, Martha Grimes, Thomas Grimes, Samuel Grimes, Henry Grimes, and Frederick Miller Grimes II. [3] The family continued to grow, adding Nancy Ellen Grimes, Sarah Catherine Grimes, Elizabeth Virginia Grimes, Elmira Susan Grimes, Anna Eliza Grimes, until in 1865, they would have their twelfth and last child, Earle Grimes.
