Biography

Josiah was born in 1821. He was the son of Myron Grinnell. He passed away in 1891.

Josiah married Julia Anna Chapin on 4 February 1852 in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts. She was 24, born in Springfield, with father Chauncey Chapin.[1]

J.B. Grinnell founded the town of Grinnell, Iowa. He attracted the small liberal college, Iowa College, to Grinnell. As part of the move of the college from Davenport, Iowa, the college changed its name to Grinnell College.
