New Zealand
Linda (Groom) Prole Lived in Putaruru, Waikato, New Zealand.

Born in Putaruru, New Zealand in 1963, raised in Waipu in Northland on a dairy farm along with my three siblings. Now living in Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty with my husband and 2 sons.

Have always been interested in genealogy which was piqued when I came across some of my closest ancestors already on Wikitree. My father had compiled a family history book over 10 years ago and I have taken the bull by the horns and expanded on that information with some corrections along the way and some "aha" moments.

A great many of my ancestors were pioneers, whether it be through emigration from England to South Africa in the mid 1800's to a land that was harsh and unforgiving, and then making the journey to New Zealand in the 1950's when the racial and political situation in South Africa was becoming tenuous; or the English migrants who came directly to New Zealand in the mid to late 1880's, a voyage of 90 days in sometimes not very pleasant conditions, to a land that was in it's infancy and so very different to the life they had left in the "homeland".

Then there was the Anglo-Irish side of the family, the Minchins; a family of 19 children (the poor mother died at the age of 43 no doubt from exhaustion). Such a large family creates a great many number of descendants and thanks to Dorothy Minchin-Comm for compiling a fascinating book "The Book of Minchin - A Family for all Seasons" which has been a great source of information and inspiration.

It was only since I started this journey that I found out I am descended from John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley, passengers on the Mayflower. A history that I would love to explore further.

Loving the collaboration that Wikitree enables and have had alot of contact from some amazing people who are delighted to finally have their ancestor profiled on a website that can be easily accessed.

Hi Linda

Thanks for your email and the info. Fantastic. I have to admit I have not addressed this for many a month, and not being an expert will need to re-educate myself how it works. I'm hoping to get a chance to look into it over the weekend. Cheers and again thanks Brooke

Linda, do you happen to speak any other languages? Would you check out our languages template and add it to your biography? For example you might add

{{ Languages | en | fr-2 | ga-1 }}

to the top of your biography if you speak English natively, intermediate French and basic Irish, or you could use de-4 to specify near-native German or ru-1 for basic Russian, and so forth up to ten languages.

It really helps to know who speaks all the different languages used on WikiTree! If you only speak English, you're very welcome to use this text to make that clear:

{{ Languages | en }}
