Biography

Allan "Weston" was born in 1914. He was the son of Henry Groom and Margaret Rawlins.

After the 2nd World War he moved from Kokstad to Port Shepstone to work as a mechanic for Bate Motor Industries. Weston also brought with him Richard Cele, his mechanic's assistant (Richard had been his young companion/cum-nanny when he was a small child on his parents farm in East Griqualand. He had grown up with Weston and followed him when he went into the motor trade.)

At the age of 33 he married 31 year old widow Sheila Tarboton on 31 May 1947 at Port Shepstone, Natal, South Africa. He was a Bachelor, Motor Mechanic.[1]

They appear to have had no children.

Weston worked at Bate Motor Industries until about 1954, when he bought his own business, Rathboneville Motors. His wife Pat did the books and spare parts and Weston worked so hard he ended up suffering a heart attack. They had to sell the business and Pat obtained work at the local Sugar Mill.

In about 1967 he returned to Bate Motor Industries to handle the workshop clerical work - job cards and invoicing.

Sadly Weston passed away in about June 1971 after having a massive heart attack.

Burial

Port Shepstone Main Cemetery, 53 Reynolds Street, Hibiscus Coast Municipality, Ugu District Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa[2]
