Sarah was born in 1683, the daughter of Samuel Groom (Jr.) and granddaughter of Samuel Groom Sr., one of the original proprietors of East Jersey. Sarah Groom was orphaned at age 14, as her father died in January 1697/8, with an estate valued at some thirty thousand pounds. At the time of his death, he was living in the Parish of Whitechapel, on Mansell Street off of Goodmans Fields, east of the Tower of London. See https://www.perrinhistory.net/Narrative/Sect5London/london.html. [1]
In the papers relating to the estate of her father, she is listed as being age 16 in 1699, betrothed to Thomas Perrin. They were married later that year. Her father's will, written in 1697, included a devise to her of his messuages in the parish of Haverin and Homechurch, near Rumford in County Essex, which had an income of a hundred pounds a year. In consideration of this gift, Sarah was to pay her sister Constance the sum of 500 pounds when Constance turned 18.
The will of Sarah (Groom) Perrin's mother Sarah (Edridge) Groom, written in January 1704/5, established a trust to hold property in Essex for Sarah's benefit, free from claims by Thomas Perrin's creditors.
Sarah (Groom) Perrin had two children who died in infancy in 1700 and 1702, and then five more children: Mary, Samuel, Sarah, James and Thomas.
