Biography

Blanche was born June 6, 1935 in Lancaster, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States. Her parents were Reuben Grosky and Leona (Blum) Grosky.^[1]

Known to family and friends as Bunny, she graduated from McCasky High School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1955, then attended Harper College in Chicago, Illinois.^[1]

Blanche married Dick Orkin in 1955 in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States^[2] and they had four children (see Notes).

After moving to California, Bunny attended a special training program at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles to be certified as a para-professional Marriage and Family counselor. She was affiliated with the San Fernando Crisis and Counseling Center of Temple Beth Hillel in Valley Spring, California for twenty years, first as a counselor and later as a co-president of the Center.^[1]

Blanche was under hospice care when she died at her home at Valley Glen, California^[1] July 27, 2007.^[3]

   BLANCHE NATALIE ORKIN Age 72 of Valley Glen, CA., passed away peacefully in her home in a cancer care hospice setting, surrounded by family and friends. "Known by her many friends as "Bunny," she had recently celebrated 53 years of marriage to radio ad creator Dick Orkin. She was also a co-owner with her husband of the Famous Radio Ranch of Sherman Oaks, California.
   
   Blanche was born on June 6, 1935 in Lancaster, PA to Leona Grosky of Lancaster, PA and Reuben Grosky of Lebanon, PA. Bunny grew up in Lancaster, PA and attended Lancaster's Manheim Township High School and graduated from McCasky High School in Lancaster PA in 1955. She continued her education at Harper College in Chicago and was trained and certified as a para-professional Marriage and Family counselor in a special training program at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles. She enjoyed a twenty year career with the San Fernando Crisis and Counseling Center of Temple Beth Hillel in Valley Spring, CA., first as a counselor and then as a co-president of the Center.
   
   Bunny created many friendships during her career with the Temple Beth Hillel Crisis and Counseling Center. Her work also brought her recognition from the Center and the Mental Health community.
   
   She is survived by her loving husband, Dick; their two sons, Haris and Michael; and two daughters, Lisa Orkin and Lynne Fisher; grandchildren Rebecca and Jakob Orkin, two sets of twin grandchilden, Rachael and Seth Orkin, Satchel and Joshua Fisher; niece, Katie Orkin and nephews, Kenneth and David Orkin. Bunny was preceded in death by her mother, Leona Grosky and father, Reuben Grosky.
   
   The family would like to give special thanks to Vitas Hospice for the extraordinary care given to Blanche. Memorial services will be held at Mt Sinai Memorial Park and Cemetery, 5950 Forest Lawn Dr, Los Angeles, CA on July 31, 2007 at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to a favorite Cancer research or Cancer care facility.
