Mabel Gross was born 1 September 1891 and married Charles Bool (1892 –1983), in 1911 at East Melbourne. Charles Bool's father Albert died when Charles was 6 years old and the mother Ellen nee Amery and family moved from North Fitzroy to Collingwood. The father, Albert Bool, is believed to have come from New Zealand and his wife Ellen to have been born in Melbourne. Charles attended Cambridge Street School but left at the age of 10 ½ years to work washing bottles in the old Foster's brewery. He was in the amalgamation of the Carlton United Breweries in 1905 and went on to complete 55 years of loyal service to that company, being the longest serving employee. During the First World War, Charles enlisted in the Australian Military Forces from 26 August 1915 to 23 July 1919, his total effective service being 1369 days. and Overseas Service 1124 days. He fought in the Belgian and French campaigns, being wounded at Pacdendale. After recouperating at Bradford Hospital in England, he returned to France until the end of the war, but could not return to Australia until 1919 due to no ship being available to bring the troops home. [letter from Dorothy Shallard and Arthur Bool in 1990] Charles played cricket for Victoria Brewery and was a keen racing man [Arthur Bool]. They resided at 215 Gore Street, Fitzroy. Mabel died in 1981 and Charles on 4 September 1983. They had five children.
