Amy Elizabeth Gross was born on 23 June 1878. She was shy and very prim and proper. [Rene] She did not work and married quite young. [Robert Culver] She was quite a good painter in oils, was wonderful at embroidery and an expert bridge player. She player every week on Friday nights, with Colonel and Mrs Beever, and always dressed up for the occassion. [Jenny Perry]. She married Charles Edward Spiller in 1902, [bd&m] when he was 21 and they lived at Unley, near the Grosses. "Charles led a most active life. When he was about sixteen he "put his age up" and tried to enlist for the Boer War. His deception was discovered and he was sent home. The Spillers arrived in South Australia in 1838 in the "Prince Regent". Charles' grandfather Emmanuel, became the first Government Printer. Charles' father, John, was a solicitor. Charles entered the public service at the age of seventeen, " [Jenny Perry] and his record there is documented in Who's Who. They had two children of their own: Allan and Gwen. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1962. Amy died in August 1968 at Semaphore and Charles on 21 May 1970.
