George Gross was born December 12, 1816[1], he was likely related to John George Gross and Maria Sophia Teal, who also lived and raised their family on Eagle Head, and both men were in all probability descended from Oswald Gross who emigrated from Palatinate Germany with his family on the Pearl in 1752[2][3].
The transcription of his marriage record shows the surname Creaser, but Every other record for George Gross and his descendants consistently show the surname Gross, Grose and Gros, so the marriage record appears likely to be a clerical or transcription error.
There is no reason to believe he was born with Creaser, as is shown in various unsourced online family trees. For example, the sources show that George Creaser, around the same age as George Gross, the son of George Michael Creaser and Ann Barbara Risser, married Caroline Corkum[4], lived at Eagle Head[5], and died in 1895 (see FindAGrave # 168080117).
On April 8, 1838, he married Dorcas Remby, daughter of Frederick Remby and Elizabeth Bangs of Eagle Head[6][7][8], and their children included[9][10]:
Dorcas was enumerated in the 1881 Census[13], but in 1891, George was enumerated as a widower[16]
George Gross died July 27, 1907 at age 92 years, 6 months[7][17]
