Biography

Jean Baptiste Dugast is on the wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on Plaque 6-Right. Listed with him is his spouse Marie Grossin, a child Marie Dugast and Marie Hache.[1]

Marie Grossin was born in 1737 in Isle Saint Jean, Acadie, Nouvelle-France. Her parents were Michel Grossin (~1705 - ~1758) and Marie Caissie (~1707 - >1772).[2]

She was listed with her family, at 16 years of age, at Saint-Pierre-du-Nord, Isle Saint-Jean, on the 1752 La Roque census. [3]

The family was deported from Isle Saint-Jean to France in 1758. Her father Michel died at sea during the crossing. Her widowed mother disembarked in Saint-Malo with her 7 children on 23 January 1759. Children Jacques age 20 and Françoise age 9 died 3 months later. [4]

Marie married Jean Baptiste Dugas (~1737 - >1785) on 9 Feb 1768 in Saint Servan, Ille-et-Vilaine, France.[5]
