Biography

Susan was most likely born in about 1830. This is based on her age of 11 years in the 1841 Census.

In the 1841 Census Susan was boarding in the Till household on Bagot Street in Abbots Bromley. With her in the household were her sisters Elizabeth and Martha.[1]

Susan was living in her sister Elizabeth's household in 1851 in Abbots Bromley. No occupations is recorded for her and her birthplace is given as London, Middlesex.[2]

In the 1861 Census Susan was lodging in the Roberts household on High Street in Abbots Bromley. Her name is recorded as Susannah, age as just 22 years, and her occupation is given as Governess. Birthplace is simply London.[3] She is also listed as a schoolteacher in the Post Office Directory around this time.

The 1871 Census finds Susan still living in Abbots Bromley, with her age increased by only five years since 1861. She is living alone and working as a teacher, her birthplace now recorded as Surrey. Her surname has been misrecorded as Groves.[4]

There's a good chance Susan died in Aston registration district, Warwickshire in 1881. Her daughter and niece were living in the area at the time.[5]
