  1. 1674 Marriage to Richard Gardiner in Monmouth, New Jersey, British Colonial America.
    1. 1675 birth of Eleanor Gardiner who passed away during 1750.
    2. 1677 birth of Mary Gardiner on June 29. She passed away Mar 31, 1729.

    1. 1679 birth of Richard Gardiner who passed away about 1749.

Birth

West records that Hannah Grover, the daughter of James Grover and Rebecca Grover (presumed to be Rebecca Chesseman), was born 1660 in Gravesend, Brooklyn Kings, New Netherland (now New York). [3]

Mason and Hannah's Memorial both recorded 1659 which is acceptable as a reasonable estimate.

Married Twice

Exerpt from Stillwell P266 also cited by Mason:[4][5]

HANNAH GROVER, daughter of James Grover, 1, married first, Richard Gardiner; second William Winter.

1708, Nov. 13. William Winter, of Middletown, cordwainer, and Hannah, his wife, quit-claimed to James Grover, wheelwright, their interest in land, "on the east most side of the middle run, on the north east side of the Mill creek," which James Grover, deceased, willed to his son, James Grover, and his son-in-law, Benjamin Borden, for the sake of his daughter, Abigail Borden, and son-in-law, Richard Gardiner, for the sake of his daughter, Hannah; also land, at Shole Harbor.

Hannah Grover, married, first, prior to 1685, as per her father's will, Richard Gardiner, and had issue, as per will of her second husband, William Winter, Richard and Joseph Gardiner. Her husband, Richard Gardiner, died Dec. 3, 1687, leaving an estate inventoried at £45.

Hannah Grover married, second, in 1688, William Winter, who, dying, left a will dated, July 3, 1722; proved June 13, 1733, which mentioned his wife, and her two children by her first husband, and my eldest son, John Winter, (then married and had a second son, Benjamin Winter), my son, Andrew Winter, my youngest son, James Winter, (single), my daughter, Zeruiah Borden, and my daughter, Rebecca Applegate.
Quoting Mason who cites Wandling citing Kelly mentions Hannah WInter as the late wife of Richard Gardiner; William Winter, implied husband of Hannah (only two WINTERs mentioned).[6]

LAND: "Item 11; NOTES: Freehold Court Clerk, Book K-2, p 158 May 1, 1715. Benjamin Borden, of Township of Freehold, yeoman, to David Burge ... by and with the consent good liking and approbation of his wife Zurruiah (Zeruiah), and also by and with the consent of Hannah Winter, late wife to Richard Gardiner deceased that was formerly possessed of the lands herein after bargained ... L280 ... lands in Middletown ... adjoining Christopher Allen (Almey), Lewis Mattix ... Richard Hartshorne ... all conveyed to Benjamin Borden by Richard Gardiner Jan. 10, 1713. Signed by Benjamin Borden, Zeruiah Borden, and Hannah Winter. Witnesses: James Seabrook, William Winter, John Bray, William Lawrence, and Rachel Clark. - Acknowledged Feb. 27, 1716, by Benjain Borden before John Reid."

First Marriage: Mayes merely says Abigail Grover and Richard Gardiner married. No date or place is given.[7] However Yates Publishing shows more details: Hanna Grover, female born in NY during 1660 married Richard Gardiner during 1685.[8]

Hannah's Memorial does show the marriage but no other details.

Marriage during 1685 does not fit within the timeline given by Mason: all their children are listed as being born at least six years earlier than that.

Alt (Source unknown): Circa 1688 -- Hannah Grover and Richard Gardiner married at Middletown, Monmouth County, Province of East Jersey (now New Jersey). If the timeline given by Mason' is accurate then marriage occurred after Richard's death a year earlier.

Hannah was mentioned in her father's will as the wife of Richard Gardiner. The will was dated December 1, 1685 and proved January 28, 1686.[9]

NOTE: Marriage was before 1 Dec 1685, the date of her father's will which named Hannah as the wife of Richard Gardiner.

Second Marriage: Yates Publishing records Hanna Grover, female born in NY during 1660 married William Winter during 1688.[10]

Marriage during 1688 does not fit within the timeline given by Mason: four of their six children were born before their marriage.
WIlliam Winter's 1722 Will was proved 13 Jun 1733 in New Jersey. The following were named in the will
Wife, Hannah and their Descendants:
  1. John
    Benjamin
  2. Andrew
  3. James
  4. Zerniah Borden
  5. Rebecca Applegate
Sons-in-law (Hannah's sons by first marriage):
Richard Gardiner
Joseph Gardiner

1733: Hannah passed away in Middletown, Monmouth, New Jersey.[2]
1733 (aged 73–74) in Monmouth Junction, Middlesex County, New Jersey, USA.[1]

Burial

Hannah was buried in Middletown Baptist Churchyard, Middletown, Monmouth, New Jersey.[2]
Alt: Unknown.[1]
