In his early years he worked in the North West of Western Australia as a gold escort, station hand and hospital orderly. He came to live in Beverley in 1933. He never married and lived in a wood and iron hut at the Main Camp in Beverley for many years until it was burned down in October 1948. He died from injuries received in the fire. He is buried in Beverley Catholic Cemetery.
