After he got out of the army, Ralph worked in the pulp mill in Samoa, California for Louisiana-Pacific lumber mill. He was an avid union member and counterbalanced his brother, Wes, who was in management for the same company. Ralph was an avid fisherman and could often be found in the mountain streams and coastal rivers of Northern California fishing for trout and salmon.
