Biography

Charles Grubb was born in 1813 and christened on 25 Jul 1813 at Little Bradley, Suffolk, England. He was the son of Joseph Grubb and Sarah Hazell.[1]

Charles Grubb married Jane Brown on 1 Jan 1837 at Wethersfield, Essex.[2] Charles and Jane had 8 children between 1837 and 1857: Samuel (1837–1838), Sarah Ann (b. 1840), Emma (b. 1842), William (b. 1844), Joseph (b. 1846), Ann (b. 1849), Samuel (b. 1852), Harriett (b. 1857).

In the 1841 census, Charles Grubb was age 26 living at Poucher's Farm, Wethersfield, Essex with his wife Jane Grubb (26), daughter Sarah Ann Grubb (1).[3]

In the 1851 census, Charles Grubb was age 36 living at Wethersfield, Essex with his wife Jane Grubb (35), daughters Sarah Grubb (11), Emma Grubb (8). Occupation Agricultural Labourer.[4]

In the 1861 census, Charles Grubb was age 45 living at Patters End, Wethersfield, Essex with his wife Jane Grubb (44), daughters Sarah Ann Grubb (21), Ann Grubb (11), Harriet Grubb (4), sons William Grubb (16), Joseph Grubb (14), Samuel Grubb (8). Occupation Agricultural Labourer.[5]

In the 1871 census, Charles Grubb was age 55 living at Wethersfield, Essex with his wife Jane Grubb (54), daughters Ann Grubb (21), Harriet Grubb (14), son Samuel Grubb (18). Occupation Agricultural Labourer.[6]

Charles' wife Jane died in 1873.

In the 1881 census, Charles Grubb was age 65, widower, living at Dog Cottages, Wethersfield, Essex with his daughter Harriet Rogers (23), her husband William Rogers (22), and their daughter Jessie Rogers (0). Occupation Agricultural Labourer.[7]

In the 1891 census, Charles Grubb was age 75 living at Maldon Road, Margaretting, nr. Chelmsford, Essex with his son Joseph Grubb (42), his wife Eliza Grubb (42) and their son Heblet Grubb (16).[8]

Charles Grubb died in 1897 age 82 at Chelmsford, Essex. He was buried on 12 Dec 1897 at St Margaret, Margaretting, Essex.[9][10]
