Private Enoch Grubbs Sr served with Cheraws District Regiment, South Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.

Enoch Grubbs was born between 1741 and 1750 based on his age brackets in the 1830 Federal census listing his age as between 80 and 89 years.[1] DAR records list his year of birth as 1755.[2]

Enoch served in the American Revolution under Capts. Anderson, Thomas & Liles during 1781; and provided Oats to General Washington.

Enoch's first marriage was to Floried K. Burton, sometime before 1775. No marriage records have been located.

Enoch appears in the 1790 Federal census in Fairfield District, South Carolina.[3] Enoch's household appeared as follows:

Enoch appears in the 1800 Federal census in Fairfield District, South Carolina. Enoch's household appeared as follows:

Enoch appears in the 1810 Federal census in Fairfield District, South Carolina.[4] Enoch's household appeared as follows:

Enoch's second marriage was to Mary Henson, sometime before 1815. No marriage record has been found. Enoch list Mary by her maiden name in his will.

Enoch appears in the 1820 Federal census in Fairfield District, South Carolina.[5] Enoch's household appeared as follows:

Enoch appears in the 1830 Federal census in Fairfield District, South Carolina.[6] Enoch's household appeared as follows:

Enoch made his last will and testament on the 13th of July, 1831, and the will was proved on the 24th of September, 1832. Enoch's will reads as follows: "The State of South Carolina} In the name of God Amen - I Enoch Grubbs Sen'r of Fairfield District in the state aforesaid being of sound mind & memory do make and ordain constitute and appoint this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say, and in the first place it is my will that all my just debts be paid, secondly I give to my son William my negro woman Lucy and her six children now in his possession together with what I have heretofore given him, which he as received of me, as p'r his receipt in full of his shear of my estate; to him and his heirs forever - Thirdly I give to my six grand children the sons & daughter of my deceased daughter Mary Jennings one hundred and fifty dollars, four of said children have recei'd from me the aforesaid legacy of one hundred and fifty dollars each, that is Elizabeth Jennings, William, Enoch, & John Jennings (as per their receipts in full) for the above sum of one hundred and fifty dollars each, the same sum to be paid to James & Thomas Jennings, after my decease, so that their shears be equal - Fourthly I give to my daughter Rhoda Hodgepath my negro woman Cloe and her son Dave which negroes she has received of me & has them now in possession, also one hundred acres of land, or the half of the Richardson tract of land whereon I formerly lived together with what she has had from me as per her & her husband receipt in full to them & their heirs forever - Fifthly I give to my three grand children the sons of my deceased daughter Sarah Lot that is Moses Lot I give my negro gairl Mariah now in his possession, also I give to George Lot and Brother to Moses, my negro boy Sam 12 years of age I give to Enoch Lot the brother of Moses & George - my negro gairl Hannah 6 years of age and my negro boy George 4 years of age, and in case either of my affore said grandchildren shall die before they come to the age of twenty one years and unmarried, the negro or negroes so given to him or them so dieing under the age of twenty one years and unmarried shall go to and belong to the survivours or survivour of them my said three grand children, to them and their heirs forever - Sixthly I give to my son Enoch, one fourth part of the Richardson tract of land whereon I formerly lived also my negro boys Charles & Peter, which negroes he is in possession of since the year (1821) together with what he had had of me before the gift from me, previous to the gift of Charles and Peter, (as per his receipt, in full) to him and his heirs forever - Seventhly I give to my son John, the other fourth part of the Richardson tract of land he and Enoch to divide the one half of said tract between them equally, the other half is given to Rhoda Hedgepath - I also give to aforesaid John my two negro boys Maga & Robin which negroes he has been in possession of ever since (1821) together with what he has had of me before the gift of Magu & Robin as per his receipt in full, to him and his heirs forever - Eighthly and whereas I have six small children, (that is) Ashford & Thomas (sons) Minerva, Sirena, Mithena & Lucinda (Daughters) the sons and daughters of my wife Mary Henson, now it is my will and desire that all the rest and residue of my estate both real and personal be disposed of for the benefit and maintenance of my said wife and children and for the education of my aforesaid six children Ashford, Thomas, Minerva, Mithena, Sirena & Lucinda until they respectively come to the age of twenty one or are married - Ninthly it is my will that immediately after my decease the whole of my slaves be sold, together with all the rest and residue of my personal estate not other wise disposed off giving such a credit as my Executor shall judge will be mot advantageous for my said wife and children, that is Ashford, Thomas, Minerva, Mithena, Sirena & Lucenda that as soon my son Thomas shall come to the age of 21 years which will be in the year 1839 that my executors then sell the whole of my landed estate not hereby disposed of at public sale and to the best advantage and dispose of the money ariseing from said sale as is herein after divided - Tenth it is my will that the interest of the money arising from the sale of my salves and other personal property, the profits of my lands until the year 1839 shall be disposed of by my executors for the maintenance of my wife and for their education of my children until the year 1839 that as soon as my son Thomas shall come of age it is my will that my Exeuctors then divide the whole of the money arising from the sale of my estate both real & personal be by them divided into seven equal shears that is one equal shear or seventh part to my wife Mary one equal shear or seventh part to my son Ashford, one equal shear or seventh part to my son Thomas, one equal shear or seventh part to my daughter Mithena, one equal shear or seventh part to my daughter Sirena, one equal shear or seventh part to my daughter Lucenda, shear and shear alike as tenants in common, that if either of my aforesaid six children die before they attain the age of 21 years and unmarried it is my will that the shear of the child so dieing under age and unmarried shall be equally divided between the survivors or survivor and of them my aforesaid said six children, Ashford, Thomas, Mineerva, Mithena, Sirena and Lucinda, shear & shear alike - and I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my friends Soloman Coleman, Samuel Fant & my wife Mary Executrix my Executors to this my last will disannulling all former wills by me heretofore made declareing this to be my last and I do likewise constitute my said executors trustees for my said children Ashford Thomas Minerva Mithena Sirena and Lucenda & for them and in their behalf give to my said executors full power and authority over all that part of my estate which in this my will is reserved and to be disposed off for the benefit of my aforesaid six children Ashford, Thomas, Minerva, Mithena, Sirena & Lucenda - In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 13th day of July in the year of our Lord 1831. [signed] Enoch his X mark Grubbs Signed sealed published and declared in the presence of us Simeon Free, William Gosa, William Free Probed September 24, 1832"[7]

Enoch died in Fairfield county, South Carolina sometime before the 24th of September, 1832, as his will was proved in court on the 24th of September, 1832.
