Sigurlaug Guðmundsdóttir

Research Note
Women never take their husband's patronym as a surname in Iceland. They keep their own. So, she was never Ólafsson. (Eysteinsson-236 23:31, 16 May 2021 (UTC))
I haven't found anything in the support of the theory that Guðmundur Guðmundsson (abt.1786-abt.1827) from Auðkúla in Ísafjarðarsýsla is the father of this Sigurlaug Guðmundsdóttir. Unfortunately my closest relationship to Sigurlaug is through her mother and as she is born after 1600 and we are not 2nd cousins or closer (3rd cousin 5 times removed) I'm not able to access her full profile on Íslendingabók to see who or if someone is listed therein as her father. Furthermore, Guðmundur Guðmundsson is such a common name that without a clear proof it is hard to come to a clear cut guestimation. But, if I had to make one I would find it much more likely that he was the Guðmundur Guðmundsson listed on Íslendingabók born on 18 Jun 1797 "Resident at Ásar in Svínavatnssókn parish in Húnavatnssýsla, Iceland in 1801. Farmer at Mörk, at Litla-Búrfell and later at Hlöðuneskot on Vatnsleysuströnd" (Íslendingabók)[10] and resident at Minna-Búrfell (Litla-Búrfell) in the 1827 Parishioner Register,[11] a couple of farms over from Sigurlaug's grandparents farm at Tindar in Svínavatnssókn parish, where she was most likely born and where her brother Benjamín Guðmundsson is listed resident in the same document. The only thing that makes me uncertain is that Guðmundur is listed married in her and her brother's birth/baptism records while her mother, Þuríður Hannesdóttir (1800-1861), is listed single and this Guðmundur would only have been 22 and 23 years of age at their birth. A bit young to be married and cheating, and his wife Ingibjörg Jónsdóttir is listed 30 years older than him. (Eysteinsson-236 21:17, 17 May 2021 (UTC))

Lists birth date and baptism date, and names of parents. Her last name is listed as Gudmundsson, but should be Gudmundsdottir, because she is female.

There is conflation going on here. Sigurlaug Guðmundsdóttir (1820 - 25 Mar 1899) was the daughter of M: Þuríður Hannesdóttir (1800 - 10 Apr 1861) and a Guðmundur Guðmundsson, very unlikely that it was the 'Guðmundur Guðmundsson (1786 - 9 Jan 1827) as he is from Auðkúla in Ísafjarðarsýsla, not Auðkúla in Húnavatnssýsla. I suspect that the reason for this conflation is the common farm name in the two different districts.
