ANNE DUPUIS veuve JEAN GUEDRY is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on Plaque 3-R. Listed with her are their children, Firmin, Madeleine, Jean Baptiste, Monique, and Elisabeth.[1]
Jean Baptiste (Guedry) Guidry is a descendant of an Acadian
Jean Baptiste Guédry, son of Jean Baptiste Guédry (1728 - <1768) and Anne Madeleine Dupuis (1733 - >1777), was an Acadian born in exile about 1762 in Port Tobacco, Charles, Maryland.
After the war's end and their release from imprisonment by the 1763 Treaty of Paris, he, his mother, Anne Magdeleine Dupuis, and their surviving family immigrated to Spanish Louisiana.[1]
Widowed, Jean Baptiste married the widow Anne Savoie (~1767 - 1839) on 9 November 1818 in St. Martinville, St. Martin, Louisiana.[3]
His death information, at some date after his second marriage, is unknown -- but he is definitely not the man of the same name who died in Lafayette in 1857.
In 1850, if he was still living, our JBG would have been widowed and about 88 years old. The 78 year-old JB Guidry, married to Marie Hebert below, is a different man, as discovered by looking at the Find a Grave memorial-- for him, the other JB -- at the end of this research note. Please do not conflate the two.
A Jean Bte Guidry is listed on the 1850 census in Lafayette, Louisiana as age 78, a planter, and living with a 72 year-old Marie Hebert. Two doors away is a 36-year-old Jean Baptist Guidry.[6]
Our Jean Baptiste's son was born in 1786, so in 1850, he would have been about 64, not 36. Neither our Jean Baptiste Guidry nor his son can have been either man listed on the census in Lafayette.
"Jean Baptiste died on 19 October 1857 in Lafayette, Louisiana, United States." This statement comes from Find a Grave, and they include sources. But their sources show that a different Jean Baptiste Guidry, born on a different date to different parents, died in Lafayette in 1857. See Find A Grave: Memorial #226234376. That one is the JB Guidry in the 1850 Lafayette census. Please do not conflate the two.

However, there are no known yDNA test-takers in his direct paternal line.
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
Guidry-1612 and Guedry-83 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate with modern spelling of name should be merged into spelling that was accurate at the time. Duplicate information and family.
I think Guidry is a Louisiana spelling so I would stick with Guédry for family name per Acadian Project standardized list. At some point it did get changed to Guidry for some families but not sure when that came about. Guidry could be the current surname for Jean Baptiste if that is what the priest wrote on the marriage record.
Guedry-83 and Guidry-312 appear to represent the same person because: same name, same birth and death year. It appears that Guidry-312 has the correct LNAB based on sources.
