Biography
Marie Angélique was born around 1706 or 1707 in Canada, Nouvelle-France, to Louis Guertin and Madeleine Chiquoine. A date of 4 September 1707 in Verchères is attached to some online trees, but documentation hasn't been found yet to prove that.
On November 1726 at Saint-François-Xavier-de-Verchères, Nicolas Martel, age 24, son of the late Remond Martel Marchand Seigneur de la Chesnaye, and damoiselle Marie Anne Trottier, married Angélique Guertin, age 20, daughter of Louis Guertin, captain of the militia of the parish, and Madeleine Chiquoine. Present at the wedding were: Monsieur Lonis Audet, Sieur de Bailleul, lieutenant in a military campaign, demoiselle Louise Caterine Martel, sister, Louis Guertin, father, Jean Baptiste Aubertin of Boucherville, and many others.[1]
Angélique Guertin, widow of the late Nicolas Martel, died on 15 September 1783 in Verchères after having made her confession and received its the spiritual help. She was buried the next day on 16 September 1783 in the parish cemetery of Saint-François-Xavier-de-Verchères. Present at the burial were François Martel, Antoine Dulaide, Joseph Dousereau, Baptiste Chagnon, and many others.[2]
