He served as a private in Capt. William Becknell's company of Red River Volunteers, July 1836.

Nothing further is known about him. There were several branches of the extended "Gurest" family who were prominent in north Texas throiughout this period, but after extensive comparison, he doesn't seem to fit into any of them, either.

Buried: Texas (?).

Joseph Guess was a Texan.
