Notes

This is a merged profile. Both tributary profiles bore the same actuarial dates, however they had different parents. The merge was effected on the basis of an online memorial site which attaches this same Samuel Guild to two spouses, Ruth Morse (of Norfolk County, Massachusetts) and Hannah (Newcomb) Guild (1754-1811) (of Lebanon and Columbia, Connecticut). In retrospect, from examining the online memorial site of Hanna (Newcomb) Guild ([5], its depicted grave marker identifies her husband as Mr. Samuel Guild, whereas the marker for Ruth (Morse) Guild [6] states that she was the wife of Dea. Samuel Guild. Both of the linked "wives" of Samuel Guild were contemporaneous, but lived in distinct geography. Most importantly, Ruth Morse lived almost as long as Samuel Guild. No record of marriage between Deacon Samuel Guild and Hannah Newcomb has been found. We therefore conclude that the F-A-G memorial site for Deacon Samuel Guild has been conflated with that of the husband of Hannah Newcomb, thus her profile should be de-linked as his spouse. A new profile for her husband, Mr. Samuel Guild, will be reconstructed. This profile, with its sources properly linked to Deacon Samuel Guild, should remain spousally attached to Ruth Morse. This incident serves as a warning case in point not to rely upon F-A-G or other singular, yet fallible online resources for linking individuals for genealogical purposes.
