>Grand daughter Mary Guile Brown Shepard, writing to Charles Burleigh in 1887s ays "The place of birth of either grand parents I have not, but they lived atSaratoga during the Revolutionary contests in sight of the Schuyler mansionand I have the old paper making my Great Grand Father Benjamin Guile, FirstLieutenant dated June 2 in the second year of our Independence, 1778, andsigned by Gov. Clinton......I also have the paper making my Father ClementGuile Major in the State artillery dated Aug. 27 1831. I had no brothers orsisters & have no children." There are records of him at Saratoga to 1808.
 !1820 census Plymouth, Chenango Co. NY - name John Gile, males 2 under 10,1 16-18, 1 16-26(same one?), 1 26-45; fem. 1 under 10, 1 16-20. (Son Clement died at New Berlin, indicates a connection with Chenango Co.)Family bible records and those from descendant Mary Shepard do not match 1820 #THIS entry may apply to John Gile #520, who was in Plymouth at this time.
