• Mrs. Rhoda Ladd, Wellsboro, Tioga Co. PA researcher says "A Juliette Gilemarried Henry Ladd and I have those Records...Giving you name of newspaper and date." Letter from relative M. L. Strunk, Tunkhannock, PA 6/96 - "My half-brother,Arthur Warters, did a lot of research which I inherited. His main sourcewas a first cousin of ours, Lisle Ladd, who lived in Westfield, PA most of his life, knew some of the family members & grew up with the family stories. I believe his information is pretty accurate. Another source was Rhoda Ladd who was THE expert on genealogy and head of the Tioga County Historical Society.Sadly, both Arthur and Lisle have passed away. They would have been sointerested in comparing notes with you. Westfield is a very small community & years ago people were farmers or lumbermen. They did have a tannery and a train & the terrain is little hills (wooded) and valleys & "hollows". It is in a remote area and is a prime spot for hunting and fishing. My father and his mother were estranged so I only saw her 2 or 3 times & wasn't acquainted with any of the family. She & I wrote to each other for a time and I know she visited relatives in NY state sometimes. I have never met a Guile and was amazed to read your papers with all the Guile descendants in the Westfield area. Speaking of amazement, I was astonished to learn of Kent Ward's connectionto the family...[he lives half a block away]..."
• Letter of May 24, 1996 from Mary Lois Strunk, 38 W. Harrison St.Tunkhannock PA "My great grandmother was Juliet Guile. She was born Dec. 13, 1842, daughter of Herrick and Jane Guile. Married June 30, 1861 to Henry Ladd. Records say 4 children, but I have one that says 5. She died Dec. 24, 1899.Her name is sometimes recorded as Julia & other times as Julia Ett. I'mconvinced she was meant to be Juliet since her father was said to have a long beard & be very fond of reading Shakespeare!"
