Accepting the later, as both refer to Tioga Co. which would correctly associate with Pennsylvania and review of source data. Additional last name variations noted.

 !1850 census Tioga, Tioga Co., PA age 49, b. NY - Ira Gile, with wife Mariah,ch. Thomas, Mahitable, Fancelia; and has Father Rea Gile and mother Molly living with them. Researcher Mrs. A. W. Ladd says same family in same loc. 1840. Located on farm between 2 Manter families, rel. of wife. Another transcription shows these families as "Mantor".
