Samuel was born before 1764. He passed away before 1836.
Birth and Baptism
Samuel was baptised on 27 January 1765 In Billingshurst. He was the baseborn child of Judith Guile [1][2]
Early Years
Samuel had four younger sisters: Elizabeth born 1771, Frances born 1775 (in Findon), Martha born 1777, and Jemima born 1784. Samuel's mother and Jemima both died in 1784 - perhaps as a complication of childbirth.
Marriage and Children
Samuel Guile Married Elizabeth Moody on 4 October 1797 in Poling, Sussex. Their marriage was witnessed by Richard Guile (probably Samuel's uncle)[3][4].
Their first four children were born in Poling: William in 1798, Reuben in 1800, James in 1803 and Amy in 1805. They then moved to Broadwater, Worthing and had Richard in 1808, Harriet in 1814 and Elizabeth in 1818.
Occupations and residence
In 1800 a Removal Order was made for Samuel, Elizabeth and son William to return to Sullington, presumably because Samuel was unemployed. The birthplaces of Reuben and Amy would suggest that Samuel did not comply. Instead, sometime between 1805 and 1808, the family moved to West Tarring in Broadwater and took up residence in a cottage in Smiths Brickyard. The parish of Broadwater had an expanding population at this time with 1,018 in 1801 but 2,692 in 1811. [5]
Death
Samuel died aged 72 and was buried in West Tarring, Sussex on 10 April 1836.[6]
