Mr Guinness was a direct descendent of the brewing family but his ancestor Hosea Guinness, an eldest son who would have been expected to inherit the family business, instead turned his back on commerce and followed a vocation into the church. Charles Spencer Guinness died on April 24 last year and owned lands at Tibradden, Rathfarnham. He was a gentle and much-loved teacher at St Columba's for much of his working life.

In other wills, Sheila Victoria Katrin Dunsany of Dunsany Castle, Co Meath left an estate valued at ?6,315,478. The Dowager Lady Dunsany was 86 when she died last year. She was an art collector and connoisseur of note.

She also played a prominent role in fostering fashion design in Ireland, launching the careers of several of Ireland's most prominent designers. Mr Standish Collen, a company director of Streamstown, Malahide and a master of the Ward Union Hunt left an estate valued at ?3,436,309.

With his brother, the late Lyal, Standish Collen made the family civil engineering concern, Collen Brothers, into one of the country's most respected construction companies. Mr Collen enjoyed an enduring friendship with the former Taoiseach Charles Hughey and was an outstanding horseman in his own right. He rode point-to-point with considerable success and was also an enthusiastic National Hunt owner. In other wills Henry Baker, farmer, Malahow House, Naul, Co Dublin, left ?5,570,949; Josephine Behan, Blackhall, Punchestown, Co Kildare, ?4,025,346; Peter Maguire, retired publican, Woodlands Park, Blackrock, Dublin, ?3,510,879; John Lewis, retired professor, Vico Road, Dublin, ?1,972,866; Margaret Pike, retired teacher, Whitebeam Road, Clonskeagh, Dublin, ?1,150,954; Evelyn Lynch, The Spa, Tralee, Co Kerry, ?1,482,452; Dezider Katz, retired rabbi, Hazelbrook Road, Terenure, Dublin, ?1,296,083; Daniel King, mechanic, Trees Road, Mount Merrion, Dublin, ?1,149,102; Peter Gondry, mortgage broker, Aranleigh Vale, Rathfarnham, Dublin, ?1,137,237.
