Biography

Alfred was born in 1851 in New Jersey, the son of Abraham and Nancy Gulick.

In 1860, the Gulick family lived in Berlin, Bureau, Illinois. The household included Abraham J. Gulick, 36, born in New Jersey, a farmer with $2400 in real estate and $342 in personal estate; his wife Nancy, 31, b. NJ; their four children, Elizabeth, 11, b. NJ; Alfred, 9, b. NJ; Stewart, 5, b. Illinois; and Sanford, seven months, b. Illinois. NOTE: This Census was enumerated on 9 July 1860, so Sanford was probably born in early January 1860. [1]

In 1870, the Gulick family lived in Mineral, Bureau, Illinois. The household included Abraham, 45, born in New Jersey, a farmer with $3200 in real estate and $1200 in personal estate; his wife Nancy, 41, b. NJ; and their three sons, Alfred, 19, b. NJ, a farm hand; Stewart, 14, b. IL; and Sanford, 10, b. IL. All three of the children were in school. [2]

Alfred, 46, married Edith (Waltz) Jones, 38, on 13 October 1896 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa. Edith was born about 1858, the daughter of W. H. Waltz. Alfred was born about 1850, the son of A Gulick and Nancy Brown. [3]
