James Gumbleton was born in about 1786 in Sussex. ^[1][2] He married Mary Ann Janman on 24 June 1816 in East Dean, Sussex. ^[3] He was buried on 30 March 1852 in Aldingbourne, Sussex. ^[2]

On 6 June 1841 in Aldingbourne, Sussex, with his wife Mary Gumbleton and their children Stephen Gumbleton, Samuel Gumbleton aged 11, William Gumbleton aged 9, Richard Gumbleton aged 7, Elizabeth Gumbleton aged 5 and Isaac Gumbleton aged 2. ^[1]
