In 1920, Hugh (40 - worked as an inspector), lived on Westchester Avenue, in Bronx, New York, with his wife Sarah (38), their daughter Ethel Frances Gumley (8), their son Robert Hugh Gumley (6), their daughter Edith Victoria Gumley (1) and his niece Anna Ramsay (17)[14][15].
In 1930, Hugh (51 - widowed and worked as a car inspector for the steam railroad), lived at 753 Tinton Avenue, in Bronx, New York, with his daughter Ethel (18 - worked as a general clerk in a bank), his son Robert (16 - worked in the engineering department of a telephone company), his daughter Edith (11) and his son Jack/John (age not clear)[16][17].
In 1940, Hugh (60 - worked as an inspector with cars and trains) lived in Bronx, New York with his son Robert (26 - worked as an engineer at a telephone company), daughter Edith (21) and son John (17)[18][19].
On April 26, 1942, Hugh (63) registered for World War II, in Bronx, New York[20][21][22][23].
