Biography

Emma Anna Gummersheimer was likely born about 22 Sep 1871[1] in Belleville, St Clair County, Illinois, United States of America[2][3][4] to Henry Gummersheimer[5][6] and Barbara Wolf[7].

Emma was raised in Mascoutah, Illinois.[7]

She married George Greber on 24 May 1899 in Old Orchard, St Louis County, Missouri.[8][9]

Their known children are Alice Catherine (Greber) Jaeckel Wieman[2][10][11][12][13][14][15][16], Henry George Greber[3], Emmett M. Greber (twin)[17], Mabel Aquete (Greber) Winston Ward (twin)[10][11][12][15][16][18], Laura Estelle (Greber) Mason[10][11][1][15][16], Pearl L. (Greber) Owen (twin)[10][11][16][12][19], Earl Greber (twin)[4][20], and Ruth Martina (Greber) Schaedlich[10][11][16][12].

She lived in St Louis County[8][14] and the city of St Louis[15][16][12][13] both in Missouri.

After George passed away, Emma married a man named Bauer sometime between 1920 and 1930.[12]

Emma Anna (Gummersheimer) Greber Bauer died on 26 Aug 1946 at City Hospital in St Louis City.[1] On 28 Aug 1946[1], she was buried in a grave with her first husband George Greber[21] at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kirkwood, St Louis County[1][21].

Research Notes

Emma's Find-A-Grave memorial lists a birth date of 22 Sep 1872, but no sources are cited.[21] Her grave site photo there shows a birth year of 1873. Her 1900 census record indicates that she was 27 years old on 14 Jun 1900, born in Sep 1872.[14] But the earliest record providing information about her birth date, her 1880 census record, indicates that she was 8 years old on 3 Jun 1880.[7] and her 1946 death certificate indicated that she was born on 22 Sep 1871.[1]. That date is used herein for her birth date.

Emma's 1946 death certificate indicated that she was born in Mascoutah, Illinois.[1] But earlier 1900/1901 birth records for children Alice/Henry[2][3] and the 1910 death certificate for son Earl[4] all indicated that Emma was born in Belleville, Illinois. The latter is used herein for her birth place.
